ASUS N53SM Review, Specs and Price

ASUS N53SM

This 15-inch desktop option packs a quad-core processor, Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers, along with a two-year warranty for less than a great. Discover why it does not result in the cut within our review.

The N53SM is charged like a premium multimedia notebook and it has the look to go with the claim. I love the blown aluminum lid and palm relaxation the silver metal speaker cover is another nice touch. The glossy screen bezel and touch pad buttons are regrettably glossy and be an eyesore with fingerprints and mud I sincerely wish notebook designers would abandon using glossy materials.

Quality is superb the chassis is stiff like a board and there is no flex when pushing lower around the palm relaxation. The plastic used is really a step-up in quality from what we are accustomed to seeing on budget notebook computers. The lid can also be strong with no ripples appear on screen when twisting it. They are impressive characteristics for any consumer notebook. At 6 pounds and 1-1.5 inches thick the N53SM is average for any 15.6" notebook.

A sizable access panel at the base from the chassis enables accessibility two memory (RAM) slots and also the 2.5" storage drive bay. Battery is detachable. Keep surprises away here, that is a positive thing should you worry about improving your laptop sooner or later later on.

The ASUS N53SM comes with an average quantity of ports for any consumer notebook it's two USB 3. ports and High-definition multimedia interface although not eSATA, DisplayPort, or perhaps an ExpressCard slot. Around the plus side, you need to do have an optical drive for watching Dvd disks or burning files to dvds.

The N53SM can be obtained with one screen, a 15.6" panel having a glossy surface and 720p (1366x768) resolution. It is the type of panel expected on the ~$500 machine although not one double that. The screen includes a cold/bluish hue and poor color reproduction - colors appear cleaned out. The glossy surface helps contrast but is not enough to compensate for the panel's quality black levels tend to be more grey instead of true black. The main problem using the display though may be the resolution 720p simply does not provide enough "room" to utilize. Considerably more scrolling is needed in webpages and Word documents in comparison to some 720p display this type of low resolution prevents using two home windows alongside too, so productivity suffers. There is no good that come from this type of low resolution - normally I'd say it keeps the cost lower, but that reasoning does not focus on a notebook this costly.

The loudspeakers however are audibly better than "typical" notebook loudspeakers. ASUS labored with Bang & Olufsen to produce this technique and it is congratulations. The loudspeakers aren't particularly noisy but plenty of volume to entertain a couple of watching people a DVD. Unlike stereotypical notebook loudspeakers with flat seem, these have depth and a little bass. The positioning from the loudspeakers underneath the display can also be ideal because they face the consumer too frequently notebook computers include loudspeakers hidden underneath the palm relaxation which leads to muffled seem.

The N53SM includes a full-size keyboard with separate number keyboard. It is a typically styled keyboard, not really a "Chiclet" version like on Apple MacBooks. Although it lacks backlighting it possesses a enjoyable typing experience. There's sufficient key travel permanently tactile feedback with no noticeable keyboard flex. Design is really as expected without any secrets in unusual positions. The secrets within the number keyboard are more compact than individuals around the primary keyboard.

The touch pad is regular sized for any 15.6" notebook and it has a great matte surface. The 2 buttons are even louder than I favor but have good feedback.
